Hello!

I'm Philippa. I started Philippart in 2020, drawing the things most people walk past: a pub on the first warm evening, two men chatting on a bench in the afternoon, a pile of books in a bookshop. I am drawn to the beauty in everyday life, the small moments usually lost in time. For me these little moments feel full of life, this is what inspires me and what I love to capture.

My style has developed over the years but I draw mostly blind. My eye stays on the subject rather than the paper, so each line arrives in one attempt. It makes everything slightly wobbly and a bit ‘wrong’, which I love far more than the neat version.

These days I look at the paper a little more and so my work has become much more detailed, but the wobbly line hasn't changed. I've started adding pops of colour, usually watercolour and usually sparingly.

I work from Edinburgh. I draw places for the people who love them, stationery for weddings and hand-drawn identities for independent businesses. This November I'm exhibiting at the Mall Galleries in London.
